Doing our best to achieve our best

Week commencing 23rd November 2020

Maths

In Maths lessons this week we have been learning about equivalence between fractions, decimals and percentages. We have also been learning how to calculate percentages of amounts. Its actually very straightforward - as we explain in this video!

This half-term in Science lessons we have been looking at the classification of living things. Last week we looked at microorganisms and designed an investigation to see which conditions would encourage mould to grow most quickly on bread. Our investigation is still under way but we are starting to see results and formulate some conclusions.

This week, we learnt about the life and work of a scientist who became famous for his discovery of penicillin - an antibiotic that has gone on to save the lives of millions of people. It turns out that this discovery, which came about thanks to microorganisms, happened quite by accident, and as a result of the untidy nature of the man who discovered it. It would seem that sometimes it can be very useful to be a messy person!

Literacy

This week we are working hard to edit and publish our stories about the Highwayman. Once they are finished, we will share our stories with parents and let you know how to access them. We hope you will enjoy reading our creations.
